Vote for your preferred new forum name

Thank you to everyone who has suggested possible new forum names. We have made a shortlist of favourites that have available domain names - this means we can use them! So I am adding a poll to the right side of this page. Please vote for your favourite.

Here is the list as well, and you can add comments if you would like to say why a particular name is your favourite. If it comes down to a dead heat, we will refer to comments as well.

Once we have the forum name, we are very close to opening up the forum for use. Very exciting!

The finalists are:

our mixing bowl (sorry had to change the to our as the mixing bowl was not available)

through the oven door

whisks and wishes

our chopping board (again had to change the to our)

mash chop grate

kitchen coven

Nigella friends

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions, and will credit the above suggestions with the forummers name as soon as I have a chance.

Please note that the poll will be closing on Sunday 5th September (UK time 11pm) - for aussies that will be 8am EST Monday 6th Sept (hope I calculated the time difference right).

  1. WOW! What a difference 24 hours make. I can't believe this is all happening. I like all of the suggestions. Do we really have to choose just one?! I'm going to have a proper think about it this afternoon and then decide. The name we pick is going to be the name we show to the world. It is going to say who we are. I like what BakingBunny has said in a previous post - Upwards and Onwards! Or something like that

  2. Hi all I voted for nigell friends as this is how I've always thought of us all :)

  3. I think they are all very clever:) I've only stuck with 'Nigella Friends' as my top choice because we met via Nigella. Also this has obviously been the name we've used to stick together during the transition to our new site:) I wont be disappointed with any choice though - if the majority of us decide on it, then it's fine by me:):)

  10. Can't see anything through my oven door....:)

  11. LOL Coby! I can see a bit through the grime.

  12. I really dont mind, but I like "through the oven door" although mine is none too clear.

  13. Any sort of coven is fine by me *g* but I actually like 'through the oven door' best!

  14. Hi, I prefer Nigella Friends :) LovingFood

  15. I have copied this over from FB for glitterfairy11:

I like Whisks & Wishes - it sounds kitchen-y but also a bit playful, which was the tone of the old website! Have voted but couldn't comment from my stupid iPhone!! (glitterfairy11)

  17. There's an over door window? o.O :P

Be sure to vote for the new domain name!
It is a close race at the moment between 'though the oven door' and 'nigella friends'.

If you know an ex-N rummer that doesn't know about this blog, tell them to get on and vote!

  18. hi again, been wondering bout other forumers, anyone heard anything? I think nigella friends, as a name, may catch the attention of ex N.com forrummers. what does everyone else think?

  19. Through the oven door!! So cute. Ist pick
    Mash chop grate 2nd pick

  20. i love the sound of chopping boaed. This says happening all the time

  21. They are all really good names . Ido however think Nigella Friends is appropropriate as that is how you started. It became the name of the blog so why not let it run?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I also voted Nigella Friends for the points made by Coby, Nads and Rhyleysgranny

  23. I thought i was the only one but saw also glitter fairy voting for that so we are two now. I do love the whisks and wishes it just makes me think of my self holding a copper bowl whisking the egg whites into the most fabulous meringue that i love and while whisking i am whishing for magic that every single beauty comes out of the kitchen as a master piece or as i whisk i wish peace, love, good friends health, great food and the list goes on...So i voted for whisks and wishes!

As for the Nigella Friends and i know as i say this Coby will be very upset with me, but at the moment i am still upset and for a wee while i am no Nigella friend! The wee child in me is still rebelling....need time to sob sob for the loss of the forum but thanks god for good ex-N-rummers who made this blog happen!Other wise all the good things on the x forum would have gone with the wind...

  24. I have to admit to feeling a little like kumicad, Nigella did ditch us all after all. (Though maybe she did so because I said that Nigel Slater's brownies were better than hers.) Anyway, I think a new forum should be a new beginning and not have any celebrity attachments as WE are the celebrities ha ha!
My other half suggests 'Bake & Forth' as a name because obviously we bake, and then our posts go back and forth as we talk endlessly about it. He is quite pleased with himself for coming up with it!

  25. It is so great to see all these comments here and that so many people are voting in the poll. Sorry ericthekat's OH but it is too late for me to throw another name into the mix. I hope you understand.

  26. I like all of these names but my vote goes to Nigella Friends...:-)

  27. I tried to post before but it didn't seem to work. I was saying I wasn't mad for any of the names unfortunately but really, I just want to be with my friends so in the grand scheme of things it matters not (but I would stomp my feet and reject Nigella Friends still!) LOL ETK - brownies causing wars, love it!

  28. Well it really is a two-horse race in the poll.

  29. I would agree with kumicad in regards to a new forum name that reflects a new beginning for all of us. I quite fancy Our Mixing Bowl.

  30. It looks like the Australian federal election all over again! :P

In case of deadlock, can I suggest:
    nigellafriendsthroughtheovendoor.com? :P

  31. MrsOCDCook - it is so good to see you!! I was a bit worried about you. I am so glad you found us. I am still looking forward to hearing all about your wedding! I am actually so glad that everyone is starting to find us. I feel the same way as you, I just want to be with my friends. I just had a look at your profile and I love your cupcakes!! Are they for afternoon tea perhaps? I will share my vanilla cupcakes that I have just taken out of the oven, if I can please have one of yours?

I think TheMacOne is right. It is a close election!! We may need to find a last minute independant or maybe scratch one?!

I still haven't voted. I'm still torn. I like Kitchen Coven, but I also agree with Coby, Nads and Caroline. I also understand everyone else's point of view who feel hurt and betrayed. This is a new start and a new beginning for all of us. At the end of the day we can't deny our roots and where we came from. After all, if it wasn't for Nigella to begin with we all would never have met.. I think I have made my decision...

There is till time to vote if you haven't as yet.

  32. hi everyone, it is close isn't it!

nice to see more and more forrummers popping up here, hope to see more :)

CC, which profile do you mean?

By the way, the pic in my profile is some italian bread I made recently, looked a bit wonky, but tasted amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh, just firgured it out, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am leaning towards a new beginning as even though Nigella brought us all together, it is all of us rummers that have kept us together. And that while I still love cooking Nigella's recipes and reading her books and watching her shows, we all have many other cooks and chefs we are also interested in. So I voted for Through the oven door.

  35. Nads, I'm glad you figured it out. I just looked at your profile too and your bread looks yummy. A nice, thick slice would go well with our dinner tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks CC, sending a loaf your way....:)

  37. I'm more than happy to go along with the majority, I just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to BB and all for the massive amount of hard work they have clearly put into setting this up.

    xx

  38. This poll is more nail-biting than the Australian election, but I think the outcome will be resolved before we know who the next government of Australia is.

    ReplyDelete
  39. hey mandy, nice to see you too! :) did you ever end up deciding on a baking book?

    ReplyDelete
  40. One positive thing about keeping the "Nigella" in the forum title is that if 'lost people' 'google' or whatever search for 'old nigella forum', 'nigella forum members' etc etc, will the 'new forum' come up as an option?? Not sure how this works. Can you find blogs if you do a general google search?? If there is no "nigella" component, then they may never find us?? Is that right?? happy cooking.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @australiaman: Over time, the forum will appear in Google and other search engines.
They have "bots" that catalogue websites all the time. Searches will (over time) also include content of a website too.
So, instead of searching for a specific name like "through the oven door" or "nigella friends", a key word or two should bring up the forums.
There's obviously a LOT more than that to it but that is it in a nutshell.
    Hope this answers your question!

  42. Thanks. I am perfectly happy to leave it all in your hands. I am fairly clueless when it comes to these things. Thanks for all the hard work and time.

  43. I think I'll go with "through the oven door".

Thanks for all the hard work.
