A few things about the new forum ...

Just to answer some questions and make sure everyone is on the same page, I just want to mention how Moderation will work on the new forum.

While it isn't true that there will be NO Moderation, it won't be as locked down as N.com was.
Having said this, the aim is to present a forum of like minded people with the same love (cooking) together that is family friendly.

To start with, we will get people who register to have their first 5 posts Moderated to get into the swing of Moderation. After the 5th approved post, people will be able to post freely without post approval but still have Moderators cast an eye for any indiscretions.
This measure is to make sure no spammers can get on and spam the forum without someone noticing before the damage is done.

There will be a list of things that will not be tolerated on the new forum once we go live. It is mainly common sense topics like religion, politics, slander, etc so I don't see much issue with the group of people we have now. Grammar and spelling are NOT topics for denying a post from being displayed.

Sadly, we have to put these measures in place as, there WILL be someone wanting to "test the water" to see how much they can get away with.

The whole Moderation process may be a bit slow to start with as Team Mandarin (our Moderation team) sort through approximately 500 posts in the first few days to a week. We aim to make the process as seamless as possible for all concerned.

At this stage, I would like to again thank everyone for their patience and consideration while we get our new site up and running.

Feel free to post any questions or concerns about the new forum that anyone may have and they will be addressed before we go live.

Regards,

TheMacOne (Mac).

  1. Sounds like a lot of work, thank you. I don't even think about things like 'spammers'. I am glad you do. I suppose one thing we need to think about is self control and our ability not to escalate potential 'situations'. Let's hope we keep our cool. I suppose some troubles are inevitable but I am sure we can work through them. We probably need to be aware of knee jerk reactions when we firt encounter concerns. Thanks for all of your efforts and time. We really do appreciate it. Happy cooking.

  13. quick question... how do you get your blog on the "Nigella Friends' blogs" section? or is it just for moderators?

  14. Danielle, just post the link here and I will add it for you.

  15. Found it Danielle and have added it to the blog list.

  16. I really love the idea of having a list of all the blogs that our members participate in:) Well, at least a list of blogs that our members would *like* to share with us:):)

  17. Will add it to the list of suggestions Coby :)

  18. BB, it would be lovely, but I know we can't have it all. You've got more on your plate than I am capable of envisioning, I put it out there wistfully, rather than expectantly, but if it comes to pass down the track, then all the better:):)

  19. Thanks Coby, not everything on the 'wishlist' will be done by launch but I am keeping record of ideas.

    No problem Danielle.

  20. @coby: The aim is for Miss Seven to come on and share her experience/s with us too.

And that's why I'm pushing for a family-friendly place to do so.

It should be like N.com but bearing in mind Miss Seven (or Master Seven/s, etc) can visit with safety.

I'm adding a line in the profile for people with blogs and it will be present in the person's user profile and near their name when they post as an icon.

  21. Oooh that sounds PERFECT TMO thank you:) I haven't mentioned anything to Miss Seven, as, if she thinks there's a chance of telling everyone about her latest salad dressing (or similar) I'll not hear anything other than 'Is the forum up yet?, is the forum up yet?' :) Oh and yes, Master Five has already decided on his special name......lol but first he has to learn how to read and write;) He can cook however, I think he loves it more than his big sis:D

Now, if I seem a bit scarse today - please forgive me, my KITCHEN arrived yesterday:):) It' so beautiful.....

  22. I am all in for a family friendly site that everyone can enjoy. And, I praise Miss Seven for entering into the world of cooking. By all means I would love to try out her salad dressing as well. It is good for children to learn to use their computers and the internet. And if they learn a bit about food even better. Down the road she will probably be sharing recipes with you as well Coby! By the way, did anyone get Nigella Kitchen yet? Not available in the U.S. till October:)

  23. Linda, I hope so:) I didn't have the pleasure of cooking with my parents as a child, so I am eager to share with my children:)

As for Kitchen - see above:) I have cooked two recipes from it for our lunch today:D Not flashy food, but delicious and everything I've come to love about Nigella recipes:D I will be curious to hear from anyone who gets the US copy if Nigella does refer to Vegemite for the Pumpkin Scones as she does in the original version:D

  24. I'm really looking forward to the forum being up and running. I feel a bit lost without it TBH.

  25. Vegemite is delicious. You just can't describe it. It is salty and strong. It is beautiful with fresh bread and butter. It is great on a cheese sandwich. It is comfort for most Australians. It is an essential part of childhood. Smeared all over your face and fingers whilst sitting in a high chair. Vegemite is love. If you are not Australian however, you just won't get it. You can always try though. Happy cooking.

  26. What's the difference between vegemite and marmite - does anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm aussie and I hate vegemite and am not a fan of marmite either. But marmite I personally think is runnier and more caramel-ish. I find vegemite much more salty. Give me butter on toast anyday!
